DITCH THE DIGITAL AND REACH FOR ADVENTURE THIS MAY HALF TERM
As May half term rapidly approaches, parents around the county are starting to think about how to limit ‘screen time’, make sure their kids get out in the fresh air and make the most of what’s on our doorstep.
One local company has solved it; Sue and Ross Wallace of Reach Beyond Adventure have created a week-long series of activities that encourage family time, promise plenty of exercise and most importantly, make memories. With bushcraft, ghyll scrambling, rock climbing, abseiling, cliff jumping, kayaking, canoe journeys and wild camping, there’s something to suit all ages and abilities.

“As parents we know that making sure children aren’t stuck in front of a screen during the holidays is crucial – for their mental, as well as physical, well being. It’s so easy to find digital distractions in this day and age, but nothing beats a family adventure day or a chance to learn (or rediscover!) bushcraft skills alongside your children.”
This May half term’s programme runs as follows:
Monday 29 May
Mountain & Ghyll Adventure
The ultimate rock and water challenge! Spend a day out in the fells above the Ullswater Valley rock climbing and ghyll scrambling.
10am – 4pm
Tuesday 30 May
Canoe & bushcraft journey
Take to the water by canoe journeying around Ullswater stopping off along the way for one or two bushcraft activities such firelighting and shelter building. Fun and adventure for families, friends, small groups & individuals.
10am – 4pm
Wednesday 31 May
Ullswater Adventure Days
Get the most out of a day in the spectacular Ullswater valley with a canoe journey stopping off along the way for a lakeside abseil and cliff jump challenge.
10am – 4pm
Thursday 1 June
Rock Climbing Adventure (am)
Rock climbing is held at a small lakeland crag amongst some spectacular Lake District scenery. This fun and exciting day is ideal for families, friends, small groups and individuals.
9.30am – 12.30pm
Ullswater Mini-adventure (pm)
Grab an afternoon of adventure with a kayak or canoe journey stopping off for a lake-level rock scramble & cliff jump challenge.
1.30pm – 4.30pm
Friday 2 June
Bushcraft Adventure
Feel the thrill of starting a fire by spark, constructing a temporary shelter, creating your own camp gadget & even cooking over an open fire.
10am – 4pm
Friday 2 June (overnight)
Wild camping
Why not extend your day into an overnight adventure with our wild camping experience? Build your very own shelter, cook dinner over an open fire and sleep out under the stars!
Full day activities cost £40 per person while half-day activities cost £25 per person. The overnight wild camping costs £45. Suitable for all ages and children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult (under 10 for the mountain and ghyll adventure). All specialist equipment, fully qualified instructor, public liability insurance, licensed adventure activity provider and a guaranteed fun day out!
