Set Sail on a Marmalake Cruise as Pooley Bridge Turns ‘Orange’

Lakeland heritage attraction Ullswater ‘Steamers’ is joining in with the world famous Dalemain Marmalade Awards and Festival this coming weekend, by launching a special charity Marmalade Gin-tasting Cruise, with live music, on Saturday 20th April.

This unique lake cruise, in partnership with Chestnut House of Pooley Bridge, departs from Pooley Bridge pier at 6.30pm and returns at 8.30pm. There will be chance to sample locally made Jane’s Dalemain Marmalade Gin and enjoy live entertainment from vocalist, Fiona Hanlon. Profits from ticket sales will be donated to Dalemain Marmalade Festival’s nominated charity partner, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.

Beatrice Hasell-McCosh of Dalemain Historic House and Gardens said:

We are delighted that Ullswater ‘Steamers’ are going orange this year with a cruise on the lake in aid of Hospice at Home. Jane’s Marmalade Gin created by Chestnut House will be served, naturally!

Both George and Beatrice Hasell-McCosh will be on board as well as Mayor Oshiro, the director of the Japan Festival & Awards and a group from Yawatahama where the festival is held. Judges Dan Lepard and Michael Perry will be joined by Jane Maggs our head judge as well as Atsuko Hayashi, an Artisan Gold Award winner based in Tokyo, who will be doing a demonstration of cooking marmalade with yuzu at the festival at Dalemain earlier in the day.’

Ullswater ‘Steamers’ has one of the largest heritage passenger vessel fleets in England and has been operating in the tranquil Ullswater Valley since 1859. Today, the company provides a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of linking some of the most iconic walking routes and views in the Lake District National Park.

In recent years, ‘Ullswater Steamers’ has welcomed a series of special charity cruises and was officially recognised for its contribution to the RNLI in a VIP presentation at Glenridding Pier in November 2023 by Chair of the RNLI’s Penrith Guild, Brenda Couzens.

Limited tickets for the Marmalade Gin-tasting Cruise are available now and can be purchased here:
