Innovative New Outdoor Business Encourages ‘Horsing Around’ Ullswater

The Covid-19 Pandemic has certainly encouraged creative thinking and diversification in many small businesses around Cumbria and beyond. One of the latest to join those in the Ullswater Valley is Ullswater Saddleback Horse Trails.

Ullswater Saddleback Horse Trails offers bespoke guided horse trails in the Northern Lake District. Guests use their own horse and each ride is tailored to horse and rider’s ability and fitness. Owner and Guide Leader, Angie Coulston has been riding the Cumbrian fells for many years. An experienced trek leader, Angie is passionate about taking her own horses Ozzy and newer addition Elle high into the mountains to explore and soak up the spectacular views.

Angie commented:

“It has been a dream of mine too for many years to share my experiences with other like-minded horse riders and their horses. It’s such a wonderful way to bond with your horse.”

Treks can be taken at sunrise, sunset or even a whole day covering miles of stunning vistas, following Roman roads and old packhorse routes, through glacial valleys, and open fells with views for miles around.  Routes take in charming Lakeland villages, ancient churches and the odd fairytale castle – not forgetting, of course, a welcome drink at the village pub under the shade of a weeping willow.

In 2021, Angie plans to offer overnight treks including human and horse accommodation – from self-catering to high end. Treks last a minimum of two hours and prices start at £30. For further information, search Ullswater Saddleback Horse Trails on Facebook and Instagram. To book a session email angiecoulston@hotmail.com or call 0796 865 8642.
