All the fun of the Follies: Lyulph’s Tower and its context
2nd September 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Free. Donations welcomeA Friends of the Ullswater Way (FOUW) Evening Talk given by Prof Jane Taylor of Durham University
Jane Taylor is Emeritus Professor of French at Durham University. Her speciality is medieval French: romance, lyric poetry, and histories. She has also worked extensively on the medieval “revival” of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries: English writers and artists such as Alexander Pope, Walter Scott and William Morris, and French writer Victor Hugo and the architect Viollet le Duc who restored and remodelled Notre Dame.
It’s in that context that she will explore Lyulph’s Tower, built as a hunting lodge in the 1780s by the Howard family of Greystoke Castle.
It will be the first ‘live’ event put on by FOUW since the COVID pandemic. It can be followed by ZOOM (please write to timclarke01@gmail.com) for registration
