Rheged is a gallery, café, cinema, shopping venue, workplace and creative space on the edge of the Northern Lakes. A place where kids can be kids in our Indoor Play and Making Space and where friends, family and colleagues can share a meal, watch a film, hold a meeting, see an exhibition, buy a gift or catch up over coffee. A flexible space for getting together or enjoying time alone with a book or notepad; a place where stories are told, ideas are sparked and the Cumbrian landscape is a constant source of inspiration.

Rheged is located just off the M6 (J40) at the northern gateway to the Lake District, a short 6 minute drive from Pooley Bridge on Ullswater.

Our giant cinema screen 1 offers an immersive experience unique within our region with an 18 metre wide screen, state-of-the-art surround sound and raked seating for uninterrupted views. In July 23, the latest 4K laser projector was installed into Screen 1, which is 4 times more powerful, with 4 times more definition and 4 times better than an HD projector. It is 3 times brighter than the previous projector and uses a quarter of the energy, making it much kinder to our planet.

Our generous gallery space and programme of creative events make us a vibrant home for the arts in Cumbria. Our arts programme includes everything from children’s theatre and craft to opera, ballet and theatre streamed live in our Cinema. Our modern gallery space hosts four art, photography and craft exhibitions a year. There is also a range of shows and fairs throughout the year, from crafts to wellbeing, interiors, gardening, and food.

Children can have some serious fun with our indoor and outdoor play areas, pottery painting sessions, creative workshops and captivating film and family theatre.  Family means everything to us and we have developed a packed programme of unusual workshops aimed at inspiring children with new crafts and skills. Our indoor and outdoor play areas, decopatch making space, children’s film and theatre provide variety and choice for our younger visitors.

Good food and drink is important to us too. As farmers we believe in Cumbrian produce, and we offer handmade, local food in as many delicious ways as we can. With three cafés, an ice cream shop, a cookery school and food hall, there’s plenty to try.

Browse our shops and you’ll find products from desirable brands, specialist companies and local makers, all chosen with care and enthusiasm by our team of buyers. Whether you’re looking for clothing to explore the outdoors, children’s toys, art materials or niche skincare, our shops have a handpicked collection from both small local makers and hard-to-find brands. Just beyond our selection of elegant womenswear, you’ll find our tranquil beauty treatment rooms too.
